Don’t get stuck thinking about the past. Focus on your future; the things you can control! Break some of those old habits and establish some new ones. Work on strengthening your relationships.

We’ve had some people inquire about how to look at change. We created this 5 part series on change and each day we’ll take you through a part of the “Change Process”.

Today, let’s look at the emotions of change.

Change creates loss. When we change, we tend to lose something. That loss triggers emotions that we need to deal with. We must make sure that we understand this so we can move on.

Here are some ideas that you can use to combat the emotion and get past the initial mourning period:

Take a moment and just mourn. But for just a moment.

Make sure that your goals are strong and you can continue with them.

Get rid of the “little voices” inside and outside of you that are condemning the change.

Know what you’ll gain by changing.

Decide that this is the best thing for you and move on to your tasks.

Don’t get stuck thinking about the past. Focus on your future; the things you can control! Break some of those old habits and establish some new ones. Work on strengthening your relationships.

Remember, if you are going to win, you’ll need to play quarterback.

Ever wondered how they do it; those ultra efficient people who have 20 tasks to do each day and do most all of them. I know one thing; I battle each and every day to accomplish my 6-10 tasks. There are so many interruptions in my life that I have reduced my “must do’s” to 6 each day.

Here are some tips you can use to make sure that every important task is accomplished:

1.	Decide what important means to you. If it’s not absolutely essential then is really important!
2.	Prioritize your tasks for tomorrow today while each task is fresh in your mind.
3.	Re-prioritize your tasks as you finish a task on your list. As you day progresses some other task may have more meaning to you.
4.	Give yourself a moment of gratitude as you accomplish each task. Nothing is more fulfilling as a task completed to a task master!
5.	If you fall short today, then move on to tomorrow. Never penalize yourself for being very busy.
6.	Make your task list today for tomorrow. It is the sign of an organized person to have tasks identified for the month in advance. Then the tasks are just integrated daily throughout the month.
7.	Most of all, work to accomplish most of your tasks. It relieves stress and will help you get closer to all of your goals.

Decide to be different each and every day! Have your goals identified and then assign the tasks required to accomplish those specific goals.

The future is yours: reach out and grab it!

This weekend in the South, we experienced a rash of tornadoes. Some 12 people were killed and hundreds of houses were destroyed. The Chief of Police in a small town in Alabama was trapped as his house collapsed in moment around him.

What’s this all got to do with your Goals and Dreams? Everything!

Think of it as a warning shot, a wake up call. If you are deliberate in all of your actions, what could you accomplish in your life? If you have no goals and just a few dreams that you’ll never act upon, why?

Clear your thoughts for a moment and focus on these tips to “Own Your Future”:

Decide what is most important to you. Write it down and review it each and every day!

Picture your happiest moments with what that is most important. Get clarity on what that looks like.

Do everything you can each and everyday to enjoy the most important things in your life. Each and every day!

Get serious and live life to the fullest. The future will be yours!

We have all heard the statement: A goal is a dream with an action plan. How many of your goals have a great action plan attached? Is that action plan working to help you achieve your goals?

Here are 6 tips to make your action plan great:

Re-write your goals again and simplify them so that they are more realistic. Sometimes, when you identify your goals, they may be lofty or non-specific. Re-write them and be very specific. Here’s an example: I want to lose some weight. More specific: I will lose 20 lbs by December 31!

Understand why you want to achieve your goal. Focus on life after the goal is achieved. In Steven Covey’s book, Seven Habits, one of his habits is to begin with the end in mind. Do you have a clear picture of life after you achieve the goal?

Define your baby steps first. Let’s look at the goal above. If you need to lose weight, then exercise will need to be a part of your daily life. If you could take the steps instead of the elevator, that would be a baby step. If you need to eliminate ice cream, then that is a baby step. Now you have a list of small things you can do today to help you get closer to achieving your goals.

Step forward and talk with a success partner. Find someone who deeply cares about you and can understand why your goals are important to you. Ask them to talk with you at a pre-determined time to review your success and failures. A set time will add some accountability to your process.

Give your all to your goals. Keep a journal of your days so that you understand what influences your actions. Then, you can add great items to your day and eliminate the distractions and negative influences.

List out 5 tasks each day for the next seven days that you want to accomplish. Review your lists and prioritize your tasks. Accomplish what you can, but challenge yourself to accomplish them all!

Good luck and make everything count! Become Deliberate!

Just last week I learned some lessons that all of us can take to heart and use to be more deliberate in our everyday actions.

My son was playing defense on his U-10 soccer team. They are a good team, and they all understand the responsibilities that they have. He has played defense for this year and until this year, I must say that I never understood the value of a good defender.

Then came a change. They were behind in the match 1-0 and they needed a spark. My son was moved to center-halfback to spark the team to move faster. He did his job, they moved much faster and came out with a win.

I learned this:

Be ready to defend your position always. A great defense against adversity is an utmost priority.

Consider this: If you need to shed a few pounds, defend yourself from temptation by not letting the cookies get near your mouth!

Good offense begins with a great plan of attack. Make your plan and work hard to score a goal today.

And: If you don’t shoot the ball at the goal, you’ll never score! Keep shooting all day toward your goal.

Patience always is on the side of the well prepared. Are you well prepared?

Live and learn: then take action. Massive action!

Jack Tallevast writes on Goals and Goal setting in Business and Life.

Are you on fire about your goals and life, or just lukewarm about your days?

Well, it’s time for you to face the reality. If you are lukewarm, then trouble is just a step away! Being lukewarm will keep you stalled in life, accepting excuses from yourself and others as to why the important things that you’ve defined are put aside and never completed.

You must take action in your life to turn up the heat! But, you may need to step into the freezer for a while to grasp what you need to change and re-focus on the pain that has gotten you to here. Then and only then, you step out and set your life back on fire each and everyday.

Now that you’ve come out of the cold and set fire to your feet, let’s think about what you can do to sustain your new focus:

Re-evaluate your priorities

Make sure that you have absolute clarity of what you want

Do it now: have an action plan for each day

Take time to develop these three steps. Then add another tank of gas to the fire. Turn it up again!

Jack

Last night, I heard this statement and it stopped me dead in my tracks. It was in a story about learning to play the piano when young and the teacher’s comment to the student.

It applies to our everyday world and I hope you can stop and listen to the music. So many times we are so involved in our daily life that we forget to stop and think. We think about the process but do we love the outcome.

Gain your perspective and hear the music in your life.

It's tough to change. Are you in a RUT already?

Something become apparent to you already?

Welcome to the new year. Right about now we start to see the big challenges to change creep in to our everyday lives. We can call it whatever we want; mostly we’ve fallen back into the the RUT!

Here are some steps that will help you get back on track:

Ask yourself why. Make sure you answer the question. The unfortunate part of this is only you can recommit to this process and get out of the RUT.

Hire yourself a coach. Make sure that they are not far from reality. Some coaches are only educators and have never been in the trenches. I prefer that the coach I hire is versed in my challenges.

Create new action plans for your goals. Make them more realistic. Make them more fun. Then get busy.

After all of this, it’s still your commitment that will take you forward. Jump start yourself. Make it happen.
